How to check Bvn

Bank verification number

There are several ways to check your Bank Verification Number (BVN) in Nigeria, with the easiest method being a USSD code.

Method 1: Using a USSD code
The quickest and most common way to check your BVN is by dialing *565*0# on your mobile phone.
  • Use the right phone number: You must use the phone number you registered with during your BVN enrollment at the bank.
  • Confirm the fee: You will be prompted to confirm a small service fee of approximately ₦20, which will be deducted from your airtime.
  • Receive your BVN: Your 11-digit BVN will then be displayed on your screen.
Method 2: Through your bank's mobile app or internet banking
Most Nigerian banks allow you to find your BVN directly within their mobile app or online banking portal.
  • Log in to your account: Open your bank's mobile app (e.g., GTBank, Zenith, UBA, FirstBank) or visit their internet banking site.
  • Navigate to your profile: Go to the "Account Information" or "Profile" section. Your BVN should be listed under your personal or security details.
Method 3: Visiting your bank
If you have lost the phone number linked to your BVN or cannot access it through other means, you can visit any branch of the bank where you first registered for your BVN.
  • Bring a valid ID: You will need to provide a valid form of identification, such as a National ID, International Passport, or Driver's License.
  • Update your details: You can also use this opportunity to update your registered phone number if needed.
Method 4: Using the NIBSS website
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) provides a BVN lookup tool on its website.
  • Visit the NIBSS BVN validation portal.
  • Enter your details: Provide your name, date of birth, and the phone number linked to your BVN.
  • Pay the fee: Pay the required verification fee, and your BVN will be displayed on the screen.
Method 5: Via the BVN Helpdesk
For assistance, you can contact the BVN Helpdesk directly through their official channels:
  • Phone: Dial their toll-free number at 0700-2255-226.
  • Email: Send an email to bvn@nibss-plc.com.ng, providing your full name, date of birth, and registered phone number.
