Travis Decker update

 On September 18, 2025, human remains believed to be those of Travis Decker were found in a remote, wooded area of Washington state. Decker had been the subject of a months-long manhunt in connection with the deaths of his three young daughters in June 2025. 

The alleged crime and manhunt
  • Discovery of victims: On June 2, 2025, a sheriff's deputy found the bodies of Decker's daughters—9-year-old Paityn, 8-year-old Evelyn, and 5-year-old Olivia—at a campground near Leavenworth, Washington, following a planned visit with their father.
  • Cause of death: Autopsies determined the girls died of suffocation. They were found with their hands zip-tied and bags over their heads.
  • Manhunt and charges: After finding Decker's unoccupied vehicle near the scene, a multi-agency manhunt was launched. Decker was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of kidnapping. Authorities warned that the Army veteran had survival skills and was considered armed and dangerous.
  • Motive: According to his ex-wife, Decker had been experiencing mental health issues and had been living out of his truck or in motels. 
Discovery of remains
  • Location: The remains were found on Grindstone Mountain, in a location less than a mile from where his daughters' bodies were discovered.
  • Confirmation: Chelan County Sheriff's officials stated that preliminary findings suggested the remains belonged to Decker, and DNA testing was underway as of late September 2025.
  • Forensic challenges: Due to the decomposed nature of the remains, the cause of death may be difficult to determine.
