In 2026, the internet is louder than it has ever been. With AI generating millions of songs, posts, and videos every hour, "being famous" is no longer the goal. The goal is being relevant to a specific group of people.
As an independent artist balancing my roots in Nigeria with my life in the UK, I’ve learned that trying to please everyone is a fast track to being ignored by everyone. Here is why Niche over Noise is the only strategy that works for the modern creator.
1. The Death of the "Generalist"
In the early days of social media, you could just "post content" and grow. Today, the TikTok Algorithm and Instagram Explore are built on "interest graphs."
The Trap: Posting a funny meme one day, a political rant the next, and a song snippet the third day confuses the AI. It doesn't know who to show your content to.
The Solution: Find your "Venn Diagram." For me, it’s the intersection of Afro-fusion music, student-artist life, and cultural commentary. That is my niche.
2. 1,000 True Fans vs. 1 Million Followers
We’ve all seen accounts with 100k followers but only 10 likes on a post. That is "Noise."
The Niche Advantage: If you have 1,000 people who truly care about your journey—who read this blog, stream your music on Boomplay, and buy your merch—you have a career.
Quality over Quantity: I’d rather have 500 "grounded" fans who engage with my "Documenting My Fits" series than 50,000 bots who don't know my name.
3. How to Find Your Niche
If you’re a creator struggling to stand out, ask yourself three questions:
What is my "superpower"? (e.g., songwriting, fashion, storytelling)
What community do I belong to? (e.g., Nigerian diaspora in the UK, student entrepreneurs)
What problem am I solving? (e.g., helping indie artists navigate royalties, providing a "vibe" for the weekend)
4. Branding as a "Grounded" Creator
Many people think branding means "faking it until you make it." In my world, branding is just consistency.
Visual Identity: Notice how I use specific colors and fonts on this blog. That isn't an accident. It’s part of the Scorti-Samuel aesthetic.
The Message: My message is about "Renewed Hope" and staying humble while working hard. By repeating this message, I attract people who value the same things.
5. Staying Human in an AI World
The "Noise" is being created by machines. The "Niche" is built by humans.
Personal Stories: AI can write a song, but it can't tell the story of your first night in a UK university dorm or the smell of a Lagos market. Use your personal experiences to build a wall around your niche that AI can't climb.
Final Thought
Don't be afraid to be "too specific." The more specific you are, the more valuable you become to the people who find you. In 2026, the quietest room is often the most crowded. Focus on the niche; the noise will take care of itself.
