Brett James 

Brett James was a Grammy Award-winning American country music singer, songwriter, and record producer who died in a plane crash on September 18, 2025. He was 57 years old. He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020.

Career highlights
James was a prominent figure in the music industry for over three decades, contributing to over 500 songs for a wide range of artists across multiple genres. Some of his most notable work includes: 
  • "Jesus, Take the Wheel": Co-written for Carrie Underwood, this song won the Grammy for Best Country Song in 2006.
  • "The Truth": A number one hit for Jason Aldean.
  • "When the Sun Goes Down": A chart-topper for Kenny Chesney.
  • Collaborations: His work was also recorded by pop and rock artists like Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift, and Kelly Clarkson. 
Death and legacy
James died in a plane crash in North Carolina, along with his wife and her daughter.
